Masonry Repair in Omaha, NE

Cracks in the wall, loose brick and stone, mortar turning to sand. Masonry problems never get cheaper by waiting. We find the cause, fix it, and make the repair blend with what is already there.

Masonry is one of the most durable ways to build, but Nebraska works on it year after year. Wet springs push moisture into the wall, summer bakes it, and then dozens of freeze-thaw cycles pry at every joint through the winter. Sooner or later, even a well-built wall needs attention.

The difference between a repair that lasts and one you pay for twice is diagnosis. A stair-step crack in a brick wall, a rusting steel lintel over a window, a retaining wall leaning off plumb, and mortar joints going powdery are four different problems with four different fixes. We repair the cause, not just the symptom.

Omaha Masonry handles repair work across the metro, from older brick homes in central Omaha to newer builds in the western suburbs. Owner-led crews, clear estimates, and repairs matched to the existing brick, stone, and mortar so the fix does not announce itself.

Signs you need masonry repair

  • Stair-step cracks following the mortar joints in a brick or block wall
  • Brick faces flaking or popping off, called spalling
  • Mortar joints that crumble when you rub them with a finger
  • Loose bricks or stones you can move by hand
  • White staining on the wall, a sign water is passing through it
  • Gaps around windows and doors, or a lintel showing rust stains

Our process

How we approach a repair

1

Find the cause

Water, movement, or age. Every masonry failure traces back to one of them, and the repair only lasts if it addresses the right one.

2

Match the materials

Brick, stone, and mortar are matched to what is on your house. Wrong mortar is not just ugly, it can damage older brick.

3

Repair it properly

Failed units come out, joints get cut back to sound mortar, and everything is rebuilt to shed water the way it should.

4

Leave it clean

The wall gets cleaned, the site gets picked up, and we walk the finished repair with you.

Built for Omaha conditions

Omaha sits on expansive clay soils that swell when wet and shrink when dry. That movement telegraphs straight into foundations and masonry, which is why step cracks and settling are so common here. Add roughly fifty freeze-thaw cycles in a typical winter and you have a climate that finds every weak joint.

That is also why quick cosmetic fixes fail. Caulk smeared into a crack or a skim of mortar over a bad joint holds until the next winter, then opens again. The repairs we do are built for this climate: full-depth repointing, correct flashing, and drainage details that give water somewhere to go besides inside your wall.

Questions

Masonry Repair FAQs

Are cracks in my brick wall serious?

It depends on the pattern. Hairline cracks in a few joints are usually maintenance. Stair-step cracks that keep growing, cracks over windows, or walls moving out of plumb point to settlement or a failing lintel and deserve a professional look soon.

What is tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing, or repointing, is grinding out deteriorated mortar joints and packing them with fresh mortar matched to the original. It restores the weather seal and the strength of the wall, and it is far cheaper than rebuilding brickwork later.

Can you match my existing brick and mortar?

Yes. Matching is most of the craft. We source compatible brick, blend mortar color to the aged original, and tool the joints to the same profile, so the repaired area blends in instead of standing out.

Why is mortar falling out of my joints?

Age and water. Mortar is the sacrificial part of a masonry wall, designed to wear before the brick does. Once joints go soft or powdery, water gets in, freezes, and speeds up the damage. Repointing stops that cycle.

Do you repair both brick and stone?

Yes. We work on brick, block, natural stone, and manufactured stone veneer. If your house has the newer cast stone facade common in the western suburbs, see our stone veneer repair page for how we handle that specific system.

How much does masonry repair cost?

Every wall is different, so we quote after looking at the job. Estimates are free, and we will tell you honestly when a small repair now will save you a large one later.
